MUST Chair Professor Zhu Yizhun Awarded Membership Certificate of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts
Recently, Professor Zhu Yizhun, Chair Professor; Associate Vice President of Macao University of Science and Technology; and Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, traveled to Salzburg, Austria, to attend the Annual Meeting of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts and the certificate-awarding ceremony for members elected in 2023.


Professor Zhu Yizhun was elected in 2023 as an Ordinary Member in Class II – Medicine of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. The Academy is a highly prestigious scholarly organization in the global fields of science and the arts. To date, it has more than 2,000 members, including 37 Nobel Prize laureates, making it one of the academies with the highest proportion of Nobel laureates. As such, it can truly be described as a gathering of the world’s leading minds. At present, more than 20 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, along with other distinguished scholars, have been elected as members of the Academy. The European Academy of Sciences and Arts comprises seven classes: Humanities, Medicine, Arts, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Law and Economics, and Technical and Environmental Sciences.
Professor Zhu Yizhun is a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars; a Distinguished Professor under the Ministry of Education’s Changjiang Scholars Program; Chief Scientist of a National Key Basic Research Program (973 Program); Chief Scientist of the National Major New Drug Innovation Platform; a member of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia Commission; and a member of the State Council Overseas Chinese Affairs Office Innovation Committee. He is also a recipient of the Shanghai Magnolia Honorary Award. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of China’s Clinical Medication (First Edition) commissioned by the National Health Commission, and as Editor-in-Chief of the national planned textbook Pharmacology (7th and 8th editions) and its English edition (First Edition). He currently serves as Associate Vice President of Macao University of Science and Technology, Founding Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, and a practicing physician at the MUST Hospital (Chief Physician and Director of Cardiology at the University’s First Affiliated Hospital). He is also Honorary President of the Macao Chinese Medical Association and Vice President of the Macao Chinese Medicine and Pharmacy Association. Professor Zhu graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine with a six-year program in Clinical Medicine (Bachelor’s degree) and earned an M.D. (Doctorate in Medicine) in Internal Medicine from Heidelberg University, Germany. He previously held academic appointments at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and at the School of Pharmacy, Fudan University (Dean recruited through a global search) for more than 20 years. He has published more than 330 scientific papers with over 17,000 citations (h-index 71; i10-index 268), and has been listed among the world’s top 100,000 scientists as well as on Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Scientists list. He has secured RMB 280 million in research funding and achieved RMB 251 million in patent commercialization. His long-term research focuses on inflammation, immunity, and anti-aging. Two first-in-class new drugs he developed have entered Phase I and Phase II clinical trials in China and the United States, respectively.
